Hasu Patel will conduct a workshop on ‘Creating awareness and appreciation of Music of North India’ and teach few compositions.
The workshop will provide a basic understanding of the fundamental concepts of music and will cover in detail the aspects of Ragas and Talas. The workshop will address the following topics:
1 The swaras occurring in music
2 The classification of Ragas
3 The concept of Raga
4 The elements of Tala
5 The different types of Talas
To facilitate the easy understanding and appreciation of the nuances of music, the workshop will include systematic unfoldment of the theoretical aspects of music interspersed appropriate practical demonstrations. Hasu Patel will also demonstrate the different aspects in a concert format to enable the participants to appreciate the melodic and rhythmic beauty in music as well as to understand the balance between the emotional and intellectual aspects of the music.
THE COURSE for VOCAL CLASSES IN DETAIL BY THE CLASS DAY
Day one (Jan 16, 2021):
- History and Theory of Music of North India
- Comparison between Western and Indian Music System
- Learn to understand the Swaras (musical notes) and major Thatas (Scales)
- Learn to sing exercises with different Thaats (scale patterns)
Day Two (Jan 30, 2021)
- Recap of the first lesson
- Breathing Techniques to control voice
- Learn to sing the swaras (notes) of Ten Thaats (scale patterns)
- Learn to sing various exercises of the scales
Day Three (Feb 13, 2021)
- Recap of last classes or any questions from the attendees
- Learn to recite Sanskrit Hymns and Kirtans
- Introduction of one Raga from these Ten Scales
- Various exercises from the Raga to be sung (practiced)
Day Four (Feb 27, 2021)
- Learn the Raga with Bandish (rhythmic composition) and Tanes (improvisations) if time permits
- Learn to recite Sanskrit Hymns and Kirtans
- Questions from the attendees
