ABOUT IAPA

The Indian Academy of Performing Arts (IAPA) was incorporated in 1979 as a non-profit tax-exempt cultural organization with the mission of promoting Hindustani Classical music.  Since its inception, IAPA has supported both Hindustani and Carnatic music concerts, classical dance performances, lec-demo sessions on Hindustani classical music and other cultural events. IAPA has especially encouraged performances of upcoming artists visiting from India.  Apart from hosting concerts of visiting artists from India, performances of artists residing in North America also have been arranged by IAPA.

RISING STARS - AN IAPA INITIATIVE

Rising Stars is an endeavor designed to bring together senior students of Hindustani vocal music from all schools in the tri-state area and to give them a forum to perform, listen and derive inspiration from each other. The mission is to develop a musical community that seeks to build their musicality, inspire and be inspired, without the boundaries of gharanas or schools.

How it works?

Rising Stars has been in existence since 2019. Each year, local schools are solicited to submit up to two nominees. Individuals can also nominate themselves if they are learning online or their Guru is not in the tri-state area. Once nominated, the nominees are requred to submit a 15 min video of their singing and a panel of three judges rate the nominees. The judges' scores are tallied and the top three are given a chance to perform.
